Grand Masonic Orient of Ireland Formed

Historical Event - First liberal and adogmatic Masonic lodge consecrated in Killarney

Lodge Tricolour Masonic Lodge No. 1 has been founded and consecrated with the help of the Grand Orient de France on the 25th of September 2010 in Killarney.

In attendence were Mr. Philippe Bodhuin, a member of the Grand Council of the Grand Orient of France accompanied by his wardens officiating at the inaugural ceremony.  Visitors from the Grand Orient lodges of the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Droit Humain were in attendence.

The Grand Orient of Ireland was started by progressive Masons that had many ideological and Masonic objections to the established conservative institution of GL of Ireland. They found themselves more ideologically and philosophically aligned with the Traditional Cosmopolitan system of the Grand Orient of France. After forming a new Grand Orient they approached the Grand Orient of France for recognition and a treaty of amity. This was granted and the Grand Orient of France gave them Patents for the various Rites and degrees of Traditional Cosmopolitan Freemasonry.

The new lodge is the most multicultural and multilingual lodge in Ireland and puts an emphasis on the support of art and culture.
The future of Irish Masonry will be built through diversity, tolerance and understanding. It is much like modern Ireland itself with a growing diversity of cultures and people all working together to form one great union.

The new Grand Masonic Orient of Ireland will be working closely with the Grand Orient of the United States of America. A meeting between officials from both organizations is scheduled to take place in Atlanta on November 20, 2010.
